An aerobic, gram-positive, bacillus found naturally in soil and plants.
It was discovered in Japan in 1902 by Ishiwata and a few years later it was isolated in Thuringen (Germany). It first was commercialized in France, in 1938 and is now the most widely used biopreperation. Its larvicidal action varies depending on the chosen strain; is active against Lepidoptera.
